SCOFFERS
IN THE LAST DAYS
Peter predicted that many people will mock Christianity in the latter days: 2
PETER 3:3-13
3 Knowing this first, that
there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own
lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. Peter wrote that the people of the end time will mock God because they will be driven by their own lustful habits. Of course, because God is real, those who resist Him can slowly harden themselves against Him. Peter wrote that these people will be “willingly ignorant” of the past Judgment (the flood), and the future judgment (fire.) Yet, Peter continues to write that our time is not the same as God's time: 8 But, beloved, be not
ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand
years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. The fire of judgment will soon fall upon this earth. The Bible is clear that this will occur as the Jewish people return to their ancient homeland. Those who walk after their own lusts however, will be fooled into thinking that this fire will never come. Obviously, the people of the end time would have heard about this fire, or else they could not be “willingly ignorant.” If this fire is a nuclear war between Russian and the United States, the missiles will take only thirty minutes to reach their targets from the time of their launch. By the time this strike is verified, and the warning given over the emergency broadcast system will occur about five to seven minutes before the missiles strike their targets. This is not long to truly repent before God, and receive His Spirit. Only those who have rejected Him, and have hardened themselves to Him, will probably not be able to internalize a genuine love for God that is necessary in order to truly repent. These people will only hide underground, and wait from the coming wrath of God: REVELATION
6:15-17
15 And the kings of the
earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and
the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves
in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? Paul was not the only Apostle who predicted a “generation of mockers” in the end time. Jude wrote: JUDE
1:14-19
14 And Enoch also, the
seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh
with ten thousands of his saints,
15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. 17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; 18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. 19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. The “mockers” are the ones who “separate themselves,” and do not have the Holy Spirit. And once again, we discover that these people are walking “after their ungodly lusts.” It is a fact that widespread sin has led our generation into blasphemy, and unbelief. God is publicly mocked on a regular basis in our society. Consider how our generation routinely mocks God. In the television program “the Simpsons,” the Christian is mocked, always talking about “baby Jesus.” Calling Jesus a “baby” is a form of mockery. There numerous movies, television programs, and songs that mock Christians. Many have hostilities towards any form of public prayer. This solidified hatred towards Christ is merely one of many sociological signs of the end time. Next Page: Peace and Safety
