KNOWLEDGE INCREASED IN THE LAST DAYS

CONSIDER: Daniel predicted that the “time of the end” will occur when many people travel “back and forth” and human knowledge greatly increases. This describes our generation. Since the major prophetic event of Israel's restoration is now taking place, Daniel’s prophecy is further evidence that we are living in the last days of man’s rule of this earth.

DANIEL 12:1-4

1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, EVEN TO THE TIME OF THE END: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

The angel of God told Daniel that this prophecy was “sealed” until “the time of the end.” The true meaning of Daniel’s words will only be understood at the time of their fulfillment. Only those living in this period of history will fully understand the meaning of these words. Our generation alone can apprehend the marvels of automobiles, computers, aircrafts and many other modern inventions.
We have witnessed a great expansion of human knowledge. Consider these scientific achievements of recent times:

> The human genetic code has now been broken
> Data can be accessed worldwide through computers.
> Man has traveled to the Moon, and has sent probes to many other planets in our solar system.
> Satellites can transmit audio and video signals anywhere in the world
> We can now digitally record music and video
> We can communicate instantly through the phone, satellite, or the Internet
> Many diseases that have plagued mankind for centuries we have now been wiped out.
> We can now clone animals, even intermingling species.

If knowledge continues to increase at the current rate, man will eventually begin to manipulate his own genetics. Qualities of various species could be combined to form a new creation. For this reason, the rule of man on the earth will certainly come to a conclusion, and God Himself will rule.
The angel also revealed to Daniel that “many will run to and fro” in the end time. The word “many” comes from the Hebrew word “rab”, which means, “a multitude.” The word “run” comes from the Hebrew word “shuwt” which means to “rove about, back and forth.” In other words, Daniel envisioned a time when a “multitude of people” will traverse the planet.
In ancient times, travel was tedious and extremely dangerous. It was fraught with perils. Thieves could rob or kill you as you traveled to other lands. You could be exposed to disease, or imprisoned. Furthermore, travel took a very long time. Today however, we can traverse across the globe in the same day. This same trip could take up to a year in ancient times. For all of these reasons, very few people in Daniel's time traveled. Of course, This is not the case today. After the inventions of the twentieth century, travel became a normal occurrence to the masses.
Today, man's knowledge doubles about every seven years. No other generation can claim this feat. In 1680, Sir Isaac Newton read this prophecy in Daniel and wrote:

“Personally, I cannot help but believe that these words refer to the end of the times. Men will travel from country to county in an unprecedented manner. There may be some inventions that will enable people to travel more quickly than they do now.”

Isaac Newton was able to accuracy describe our period of history after reading Daniel's prophecy. Since our generation is experiencing a great expansion of human knowledge, we should contemplate on Daniel’s words more than Isaac Newton.

CONCLUSION

Two unique signs of the “time of the end” are found in Daniel’s words. Knowledge will increase, and travel will become common. Both signs perfectly describe our generation. Compare this with the fact that dozens of Bible passages predict that Israel will return in the end time, and this second Zionist movement is in the process of occurring today. We should pay close attention to Daniel’s words.
